KEYNOTE SPEAKER HIGHLIGHTS

Minal Bopaiah

Award-winning author, keynote speaker, and equity strategist Minal Bopaiah brings a critical lens to the intersection of culture, communication, equity, and emerging technology.

In one of her recent articles, Your AI Tools Are Culturally Biased—And It’s Hurting Your Mission, Minal examines how AI systems can embed cultural assumptions and why organizations need to consider cultural context when adopting and using these tools. Her keynote will invite us to think critically about what happens when technologies designed to increase efficiency encounter the complexity of human culture.

Dr. Carlos E. Cortés

With more than five decades of engagement with diversity and intercultural issues, Dr. Carlos E. Cortés brings a historian’s perspective to the challenges facing our field today.

In his recent article, Renewing Diversity in Disruptive Times, Dr. Cortés asks us to look unflinchingly at the past, apply those lessons to the present, and then pivot toward the future. His keynote will examine the historical strengths and weaknesses of diversity work and challenge interculturalists to critically reflect on established practices as we consider how to move forward.

Together, these keynotes embody the spirit of Root & Reach by drawing on experience and foundational knowledge while remaining willing to question, adapt, and explore what comes next.
