Dr. Joyce Osland has dedicated her professional career to the field of Global Leadership with a special focus on the competencies for effective global leadership and the design of programs to promote and assess transformational growth. This session focuses on research findings and practical lessons learned from the Global Leadership Lab (GLLab) part of the Global Leadership Advancement Center which is housed in the School of Global Innovation & Leadership at San Jose State University’s Lucas College and Graduate School of Business located in Silicon Valley.

Joyce is a co-founder of the GLLab, established in 2008 to identify and test best practices in global leadership development. In training over 1300 participants GLLab combines an assessment center approach with experiential learning designed to accelerate the development of global leadership expertise. Joyce characterizes this process as “crucible” experiences. Attendees of this session will learn how to design effective Global Leadership training programs and how to avoid pitfalls.

About the Presenter

Joyce Osland recently retired from her roles as the Lucas Endowed Professor of Global Leadership and as Executive Director of the Global Leadership Advancement Center at San Jose State University where she co-founded the GLLab. With 25 years of experience in global leadership development, Joyce teaches and consults at various global organizations and universities. Recent books include Advances in Global Leadership (vol. 13), Managing Across CulturesThe SAGE Handbook of Contemporary Cross-Cultural Management, and Global Leadership: Research, Practice and Development. She is a senior partner at the Kozai Group,which creates instruments that assess global competencies.
