Al Andalus! The Legend: Then and Now, Spain and Houston
Director/Choreographer Sara Draper and Music Director/ Composer Sharon Joy discuss the multi-cultural issues and successes of Al Andalus! The Legend, a multi-disciplinary dance epic that celebrates a legendary era in medieval Spain, 800 years of Arabian reign in Andalusia. Illustrating their presentation with video clips, Ms. Draper and Dr. Joy will describe the unique intercultural experiences and challenges that were encountered in bringing together this group of artists from Houston’s diverse cultures and share their vision for the future of the project.
Sharon Joy
Sharon Joy has been composing, performing, conducting, and teaching music for over 25 years. Her music is often heard at gatherings that promote intercultural understanding and healing and her works have been performed by youth and adult choirs across the United States and abroad.
Sara Draper
Sara Draper is the Artistic Director of Dancepatheatre based in Houston, Texas. Ms. Draper’s BA in Anthropology (University of Houston, 1999), reflects the interest in various cultures and cultural issues that informs many of her works. She is a contributing author of Lessons Learned: A Multicultural Perspective.
