Julia Gaspar-Bates, Local Groups Director

The Local Groups met to discuss common issues, ask questions, and engage in several activities facilitated by Julia Gaspar Bates and Kwesi Ewoodzie. It was FUN!!! And here is a poem that emerged when we were sent to chat rooms to devise a poem that reflected cultural celebrations for this time of year. Can you detect which cultures these traditions come from?

Poem from the Local Groups Meeting:

New beginnings

Eating grapes and dates a many

Celebrating, reflecting, dragon dancing with zest

Resolutions for what comes next

Fireworks lighting up the sky and spirits soaring high

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

Oh no not not!

Burning off the negatives from the old year

While holding friends and family dear

Let’s all get together and cheer

Some of SIETAR DC’s members got together for a baking fest of holiday treats to distribute to recently arrived Afghani refugees. We would like to share some photos!
