    Michael F. Tucker, Ph.D., CMC, founding member of SIETAR and Fellow in the Intercultural Academny of Intercultural Research, has been appointed a Trustee to the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes, representing the Institute of Management Consultants USA.  The IMC is the certifying body and professional association for management consultants in the United States.  The ICMCI is the global association of management consulting institutes from around the world, made up of member institutes from 50 nations, with more than 50,000 individual members and almost 10,000 Certified Management Consultants.

    The dates for the event are: 
    Wednesday Evening, September 18th to Saturday Night, September 21st 2013.  A special 'how to' day of workshops to enhance your business offering to your clients will be held on Wednesday 18th.

    The working theme of the congress is 'Global Reach, Local Touch'promoting the need for inclusionary thinking, the valuing of diversity and the synergistic performance of people working together across the globe - reflecting the reality of our everyday lives.

    Different from before, this event will be a 'glocal' congress where we will be using the latest technology to be wired to the rest of the world for broadcasting and receiving live presentations from partner organisations across the globe. We will have live interaction from our audience via Twitter, Facebook, etc. There will also be TED-style presentations and workshops.

    Similar to the previous events there will be closed meetings, committee meetings and plenary sessions. Once again we will have a chance to discuss the most important issues, new research data and exchange ideas.

    Tallinn, one of the most beautiful cities in this part of Europe, is a dynamic and radiant city that features stunning architecture and a vibrant cultural life. You will have plenty of touring and shopping opportunities to take advantage of in the city. In 2011, Tallinn was the European Capital of Culture. Take time to wander through the Tallinn's many historical landmarks and enjoy the grace of scenery. It's a little-known city with a big heart.

    The Grant Writing Workshop presents
    Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop

    May 13-14, 2010
    8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
    San Francisco, California

    The Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop  is a hands-on, intensive session that leads participants through the entire grant proposal and funding research processes. Through an intense two day workshop, participants will receive an overview of program planning basics along with advanced writing techniques to develop your winning proposal. This results-based workshop allows each student to walk out with a thorough proposal outline, completed worksheets necessary for proposal submission, and a starting collection of publications and resources to build your development library. This course is designed to provide your organization with the competitive advantage necessary in our modern grants award environment.

    The Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop will cover the following during the two day workshop:
    (1) Fundamentals of Program Planning
    This session will teach professional program development essentials and program evaluation. While most grantsmanship  "workshops" treat program development and evaluation as separate from the writing of a proposal, this class will teach students the relationship between overall program planning and proposal writing.
    (2) Strategic Funding Research
    At its foundation, this session will address the basics of foundation, corporation, and government grant research. However, this course will emphasize a strategic funding research approach that encourages writers to see research not as something they do before they write a proposal, but as an integrated part of the grant  seeking process. Students will be exposed to online and database research tools, as well as publications and directories that contain information about foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities. Focusing on funding sources and basic social science research, this course teaches students how to use research as part of a strategic grant  acquisition effort.

    (3) Professional Proposal Writing
    Designed to obtain tangible results, this session will make each student an overall proposal writing  specialist. In addition to teaching the basic components of a grant proposal, successful approaches, and the do's and don'ts of grant writing, this session is infused with expert principles that will lead to a mastery of the process. Strategy resides at the forefront of this session's intent to illustrate grant  writing as an integrated, multidimensional, and dynamic endeavor. Each student will learn to stop writing the grant and to start writing the story. Ultimately, this session will conclude with a completed proposal outline.


    Tuition for this two day workshop is $399.00.

    In the summer of 2010 the first “Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience” will take place in Karlsruhe, in the south of Germany. It will be cooperatively organized by Karlshochschule – International University and AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V. It approaches relevant topics in the field of intercultural management and communication and is intended to foster the intercultural perspective within the field of management theory as well as to develop applied solutions for the problems in business and society. Through the Summer Academy on Intercultural Experience we hope to continue the dialogue between researchers and practitioners of different backgrounds.

    The Summer Academy will last three weeks (August 16th - September 3rd 2010) and students can enroll for either two or three weeks. The academy will offer lectures on Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Management, Cultures and Conflicts, European Cultural Studies, Intercultural Training and Coaching as well as Intercultural Teams and Leadership.

    All courses will include workshop sessions with complementary theoretical and practical content offered by academic staff and AFS-trainers which are experts with large experience in international environments.

    The Summer Academy which will be held in English is open to anyone aged 18-35 with a demonstrable interest in the field of intercultural communications and management. Primary target groups are undergraduate students and young professionals with a background or interest in intercultural experiences.
    Participants will be awarded a Certificate after successfully completing courses at the Academy. Students who successfully complete two (three) courses within two (three) weeks will not only be awarded a certificate but also earn four (six) ECTS.

    For over 15 years, Ruben Hernandez (member of Sietar Germany) has been compiling national surveys focused on how different cultures want to hear and see business and sales presentations. They are now available online.

    Each article is divided into three sections totaling between 1700 - 2200 words. The first section is a diagrammed profile – using 13 cultural dimensions linked to presentations. An explanation of how these dimensions express themselves in presentations can be found on the website at the link given below. The second section covers the precise pointers on how to adapt your presentation in specific areas that include: acceptable and non-acceptable attitude of the speaker, preferred speaker qualities and body language, presentation structure, degree of background needed, content differences, listening patterns, key persuasion buttons, areas to highlight (and ignore), summary content, Q & A, and even how to dress properly for your talk. Section three is a list of likes and dislikes (do’s and don’ts) that functions as a concise summary of each article.

    The pointers are skewed toward business presentations, but non-business-related speakers will also glean useful information here. There are currently 15 articles online – with more on the way; each one costs € 11.95.

    In 2010 the Center for Women's Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) marks 10 years of fostering the intercultural competence critical for the next generation of women leaders across the Saint Mary’s campus, connecting with communities at the local, state, national, and global levels. This interactive conference brings together theorists, scholars, professionals, educators, community activists, practitioners, and students.  Participants have opportunities for networking, sharing best practices, and joining a national conversation about emerging work on the following conference themes:

    •    Thinking in new ways about women’s leadership and promoting women as change agents
    •    Developing women’s entrepreneurship
    •    Articulating ethical and spiritual foundations
